Sinus Graft / Lift Fitzroy
What is a Sinus Graft and Why Might I Need One?
Dental implants require a certain width and depth of bone as this will ensure there is plenty of natural bone for Osseo integration, a process where new bone cells will grow on and around the implant post, anchoring it firmly in place. Often there is insufficient bone and it is necessary to build it up with a bone graft.
A sinus graft is a specific type of bone graft that is often required in preparation for implants that will replace the upper premolars and molars. This is the area nearest to the sinuses where the bone is often thinner and this might be due to periodontal disease, or bone loss after teeth have been removed for quite some time as bone is gradually reabsorbed. Often the maxillary sinuses in this area are too close to the upper jaw and the shape and size of sinuses can vary from person to person. Your sinuses also get bigger as you get older.
What Is the Procedure for a Sinus Graft?
A sinus graft will be carried out by our oral and maxillofacial surgeon and bone will be added between your jaw and the maxillary sinuses located on either side of your nose. In order to make room for the bone graft, the membrane in between your sinuses and your jawbone has to be lifted or moved upwards. The bone graft will be inserted into this space. To do this a small incision will be made into your gums and a tiny window will be created in your jawbone. The membrane in between your jawbone and your sinuses is carefully pushed upwards and granules of bone graft material event packed into this space. Usually several millimetres bone will be added. Once the bone graft is added, your gums will be closed up and the graft will be left to heal for several months. During this time the graft material will integrate with your natural bone, encouraging the growth of new bone cells.

It could be worth considering dental implants if you are facing tooth loss, perhaps due to a failed root canal treatment or as a result of disease or trauma. We can also help you if you have lost multiple teeth and currently wear partial or full dentures but would prefer to get rid of them and find a more permanent and comfortable solution.

All-on-four is a procedure for securing a complete arch of teeth firmly in place, using just four dental implants, which is fewer than normally required. This technique is normally used to replace full lower dentures with a full arch bridge, but may also be used to replace a full upper denture. It can be an excellent solution if you currently wear full dentures or are facing complete tooth loss in the future.
