Dental Fillings Melbourne VIC
What is a Dental Filling?
When a tooth is damaged by disease or trauma, it is vital to repair it, restoring structure and strength, minimising caries and sealing out bacteria. For small to medium sized areas of damage, we can generally use fillings. We are an amalgam-free practice and will use the most advanced tooth coloured materials to create a strong and hard wearing yet virtually invisible repair.
Here at St Vincent’s we go out of our way to make sure you have all the information you need to make the right choice for you and your decision will never be rushed. Even the smallest and most unobtrusive filling is important to your overall dental health.
What is the Procedure for a Filling?
A local anaesthetic will keep you comfortable during treatment as your dentist removes the damaged area of the tooth and carefully shapes it in preparation for a filling. With a tooth coloured filling, the colour will be closely matched to your natural teeth and is applied to the cavity in small increments that are gradually hardened. Afterwards the filling material is shaped and polished and we will check to make sure your teeth can bite together correctly and that the filling isn’t too high.
How Long Will a Filling Last?
Your new filling should last for several years but we will check its condition during regular examinations as eventually it will need replacing. For more information, speak to our friendly dental team on (03) 9419 7022.

Explore MoreCheck-Up
Here at SV Dental Centre, we like to see children by age 2. While this might seem very young it’s the ideal opportunity to get a child used to visit our practice. These initial check-ups are just a gentle examination to make sure everything is okay and to chat to you about your child’s dental care and to answer any questions you may have.
Explore MoreDentures
Also known as false teeth, can be either complete, where all the teeth are missing or partial, when some teeth remain. Dentures are not as effective as dental implants but more affordable.
Explore MoreRoot Canal
Root Canal Therapy is the control of infection by removing dead pulp from inside the tooth. A successful root canal procedure will generally save the infected tooth where it is then cleaned, sterilized ad reshaped.
Explore MoreTMD & Bruxism
Bruxism is the technical term for clenching and grinding, a subconscious condition that often occurs nocturnally. As a result, patients may be unaware they have this habit until they begin to experience symptoms, receive complaints from sleeping partners as grinding can be noisy, or it is diagnosed by a dentist.
Explore MoreExtractions
The dentists here at SV Dental Centre regard tooth extraction as being the last resort but sometimes it can be the best option. This may be the case if the tooth is too badly damaged, for example if it has fractured right down through the tooth root, or where it is so badly infected that we need to remove it to clear up the infection.
