At What Age Should My Child First See a Dentist?

Here at St Vincent’s Dental Centre, we like to see children by age 2. While this might seem very young it’s the ideal opportunity to get a child used to visiting our practice. These initial check-ups are just a gentle examination to make sure everything is okay and to chat to you about your child’s dental care and to answer any questions you may have.

Our practice has been designed to be warm and welcoming to help you and your child feel at ease, but if there is anything more we can do then please let us know. It is important to us that your child has an enjoyable and positive experience when they come to see us.

How Frequently Should My Child See a Dentist?

As your child gets older, we will normally need to see them every six months. During these examinations we will check their teeth and gums are healthy and that their jaws are developing properly. We will need to take regular digital x-rays and the frequency will depend on your child’s risk of tooth decay. By keeping a close eye on their dental health, our aim is to help ensure their teeth remain healthy and strong. This is particularly important even for milk teeth as these teeth help hold open the correct amount of space for adult teeth and they help to ensure your child can learn to eat and speak properly.
