A tooth that has become badly infected may require root canal treatment to save it from extraction. Root canal treatment or therapy is necessary when the very central part of the tooth has become infected and inflamed. By removing this part of the tooth, called the pulp, we can clean out the tooth, restoring it with a filling or crown.
Treatment can be highly effective and should feel little different to having a filling. Our dentists are very experienced in root canal treatment and you’ll find we are extremely gentle while ensuring treatment is of the very highest quality available anywhere today. St Vincent’s Dental Centre takes every possible precaution when planning and carrying out root canal treatment to make sure it is a success.
If a tooth develops a dull ache or is painful when you bite down on it then it’s possible it could be infected. Other symptoms include noticing the gum around the tooth has become red or puffy and there could even be a small pimple developing on the gum tissue. If you think you may have an infected tooth, please contact St Vincent’s Dental Centre as root canal treatment is generally more successful when carried out in a timely manner. We can soon diagnose an infected tooth and will provide high-quality treatment to relieve discomfort and pain and to save the tooth.
We know some people are nervous about this treatment, but we’d like to reassure you that with proper care we can help to eliminate these fears. Afterwards you will find your tooth feels much more comfortable. For more information, please speak to our friendly dental team on (03) 9419 7022.
